Race Information

The 25km starts at 8:00 am at Franschhoek High School’s sports grounds, access from Reservoir Street. The race will finish at the High school’s sports grounds where there will be plenty of space and a great vibe for all runners and spectators to enjoy.

25km Route

The Long Route is a 25km loop following the MRNR Perdekop Trail – marked by a large stone cairn (Perdekop is the highest point in the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve – Elevation 1575m) , which crosses the Uitkyk Trail towards Du Toitskop Peak at 1407m with a single track descend all the way back to the finish in Franschhoek.

Once the trail starts, you will be immersed in nature as you follow an open single track to the Mont Rochelle nature reserve, from which point the Perdekop Trail branches off towards the east of the Uitkyk Trail, heading up the right hand side of the Du Toit’s river gorge crossing over a small bridge.

The footpath then swings into a north-easterly direction, and immediately embarks upon an mostly steep uphill climb, gaining +/-1300m in elevation before reaching the highest point of the Mont Rochelle nature reserve called Perdekop 1575m. Perdekop is marked by a large stone cairn and overlooks the breathtakingly beautiful Stettynskloof Dam. If you have a camera, now would be the time to reach for it.

The footpath then heads westward, crossing a small stream. Following a short climb, the trail continues along the footpath before reaching the second viewpoint with superb panoramic views of the Wemmershoek valley and surrounding cliffs. To the west Table Mountain is visible on a clear day. From here, the trail follows the view that will take you all the way down to the Uitkyk Trail Crossing. Here you will find the 18km runners joining your path from the left, linking a brand new exciting trail section (Manganese trail) of MRNR which links up towards the Du Toitskop Summit and 3rd prominent viewpoint of the day at 1407m.

Magnificent vistas of the Franschhoek & Berg River valley can be seen on the way down. You will be amazed by the beauty and view of this portion of the trail as you descend towards the Vista Trail.

From here its an 7+ km downhill.

Once you reach the MRNR gate there is only 4.5km left. At the finish, participants are rewarded with an aid station and a finisher’s medal.
