Race Information

The 10km starts at 9:30 am at Franschhoek High School’s sports grounds, access from Reservoir Street. The race will finish at the High school’s sports grounds where there will be plenty of space and a great vibe for all runners and spectators to enjoy.


10km Route

New 10km Downhill Run (POINT TO POINT)

This ‘lollipop’ trail includes the Breakfast Rock Trail and a short section of the Du Toitskop Trail. The trail climbs about 275m to reach an elevation of 1028m above sea level.

Starting on the Breakfast Rock Trail, the Perdekop Trail branches off to the left at 1080m from the main gate. Following this trail, you will reach the Vista Trail view point.

On this part of the trail, on a clear day, Lion’s Head and Table Mountain can be seen through the Helshoogte gap between Simonsberg on the right and Groot Drakenstein Mountain on the left.

The Vista Trail continues for another 322m, joining up at the Uitkyk Trail Junction.

You will then turn right onto the Breakfast Rock Trail again, from here it is about 1km to the main gate.

Once you reach the MRNR gate there is only 5km left to the finish. At the finish, participants are rewarded with an aid station and a finisher’s medal.

Race entry does not include the following:

  • Personal medical, nutritional and hygiene requirements

  • Any snacks or performance nutrition during the event

  • Basic medical support is offered for emergencies but excludes helicopter evacuation, or any hospitalization transport, which will be at the athlete’s costs.

10km Route Profile

Trail du Mont Rochelle – 10km

No Littering. Ever

  • No seconding. Runners must be self-sufficient.

  • There are few places on the route to get water to refill bottles and bladders.

  • There will be cut off times along the way, after which emergency routes must be followed.

  • Runners must stay on the marked trail. No short cuts allowed.

  • There will be checkpoints.

  • There will be a sweeper.

Required Equipment

Please remember; It will be cold at the Peak. For this reason we recommend the following required equipment.

Even on a clear day, there might be a bit of wind at the top which could bring down the temperature quite bit.

Please be sensible. The equipment we recommend are just the basics to help protect you at the top of the mountain. You know your body so please prepare appropriately. It is for your safety.

There will be a kit check at the start of the race and anytime during or after the race.

Required gear:


  • Space blanket.

  • Buff / hat or both

  • Gloves

  • At least 1 L of water (there are a few places on the mountain to get water)

    – Only water on first half of race

    – No water on second half of race

Cell phone, charged.

Emergency numbers will be provided closer to the race date.

Running shoes – Preferably Trail running shoes
Outer shell jacket (windbreaker)

Backpack or hip belt that can carry the above gear:
Micro fleece (thin fleece)
Your own energy Food for the entire run (4 – 6 hours).
First aid kit. (use your discretion, these are items that you deem necessary.)

Recommended Gear for bad weather:

  • Waterproof rain jacket (not just a wind breaker)

  • Gloves

  • Cold weather running pants / long tights

  • Thermal base layer

  • Mohair socks – keeps your feet warmer in wet shoes

  • Grabber hand/toe warmers

Race Cancellation

Due to the extreme and often unpredictable high altitude conditions to be found in the Mont Rochelle mountains, organizers of the Trail du Mont Rochelle reserve the right to cancel the race in the event of severe weather or dangerous running conditions.
